Mike Tyson Returns to Boxing

Former heavyweight champion and one of the most effective knockout artists in history ‘Iron’ Mike Tyson has announced a return to the ring at the age of fifty-three. The former world champion has announced plans to participate in exhibition bouts to raise money for charity. After becoming the youngest heavyweight champion in history, at the age of twenty, Tyson took the sport by storm. Known for his hard-hitting, aggressive and ruthlessly effective style, Tyson has remained a fan favourite. As a young man, reaching the dizzying heights of success at a tender age, Tyson witnessed his fair share of controversy. Between 1992 and 1995, Tyson served a three-year prison sentence after being convicted of rape. When he returned to the ring he quickly rose back to dominance in the sport for a second time. However, in a now infamous clash with heavyweight champion Evander Holyfield, Tyson bit off his opponent’s ear. Since then, however, the boxing legend has adopted a demeanour in stark contrast to his previous image as ‘the baddest man on the planet.’ Now known as a cannabis smoker and exuding a humble and at times meek demeanour, fans have expressed surprise at his return to boxing, fifteen years after he last unleashed on a punch bag.

In an interview on Instagram live, the 53-year-old boxing legend discussed his return to training. “I’ve been hitting the mitts for the last week. That’s been tough, my body is really jacked up and really sore from hitting the mitts. I’ve been working out, I’ve been trying to get in the ring, I think I’m going to box some exhibitions and get in shape. I want to go to the gym and get in shape to be able to box three or four-round exhibitions for some charities and stuff. Some charity exhibitions, make some money, help some homeless and drug-affected motherf****** like me. I do two hours on cardio, I do the bike and the treadmill for an hour, then I do some light weights, 300, 250 reps. Then I start my day with the boxing thing, I go in there and hit the mits, 30 minutes, 25 minutes, start getting in better condition. I’m start to put those combinations together. I’m in pain, I feel like three guys kicked the s*** out of me.”
