By | 4th September 2020

Chelsea have agreed a deal with Bayer Leverkusen to sign Kai Havertz according to reports in Germany. The deal is said to be worth up to £89 million with the Blues paying an initial £72 million up front and the rest as add-ons. Sky in Germany have been monitoring the situation closely as the player is currently with the German national side for the upcoming games.

Negotiations were finalised on Wednesday, and Havertz reportedly stated that he wanted the transfer to be finalised as soon as possible. The whereabouts of his medical are unknown as some believe he may do it in Germany or wait till after the Nation League games.

Player profile: Kai Havertz

Kai Havertz has scored 46 goals in 150 games for Leverkusen despite his young age. Germany have listed him as one of the brightest talents coming out of the country as he has been in terrific form over the past few seasons. He has been compared to France legend Zinedine Zidane due to his high intellect and fluidity on the pitch. Other comparisons are there with compatriot Michael Ballack, who also made a move from Leverkusen to Chelsea.

Kai Havertz has an incredible record in front of goal for playing in the midfield. He is often deployed as a number 8 but can drift deeper and closer to the box as he has an eye for goal. For Bayer Leverkusen he often played in the attacking midfield position or on the right side of their attack.

Negations continue

Chelsea have offered summer signing Malang Starr, the centre-back, to Leverkusen on a loan basis for the entire 2020/21 season to better the deal. It is clear that this transfer has been highly spoken about as Chelsea have been looking at Kai Havertz for some time and Lampard will be satisfied with this acquisition.
